Finishing the Quran: How Do You Usually Do it?

Assalamualaikum beautiful people! How are you doing? Hopefully all is well. It's Jumuah, alhamdulillah. Have you read al Kahfi? Honestly I haven't. In fact, I have missed reading the surah in the past few weeks because I am more focused on finishing 3-4 juzuk of Quran per week so... yeah, I unfairly abandoned Al-Kahf for a while.
Normally I only read one page of Quran per day, and sometimes I did not read it at all for a few days. Astaghfirullah al azim... Yes, I was like that until my mother proposed a project called "One Juzuk One Week" in the Family Johor whatsapp group, only now I am diligently reading Quran so as to achieve the goal of the project. Mak managed the project by reminding everyone to finish their respective juzuk for the week, and make a weekly timetable to rotate the juzuk to read among all the group members. Everyone is aimed to khatam the Quran in 30 weeks.
Since it started last month, I have finished reading 14 juzuk, alhamdulillah. Why do I have to read 3-4 juzuk in a week? You know why? Well, I obviously want to khatam the Quran before giving birth to my baby. In shaa ALLAH she is seeing the world in early August, which is another 14 weeks from now. Hence, time is running out for me! I have 14 weeks, or lesser to finish another 16 juzuk.
Now the question is: Why didn't I start reading the Quran (in regard to khatam before laboring) earlier? Seriously I have never thought of doing so. I mean, I only do my usual which is to read it one page per day, and ever since I am pregnant, I regularly read surah Yusuf, Maryam and Luqman to the life in my womb. It is either my husband or me reading these surahs, or I will let imam Mishary al Efasy recites it for her from YouTube.
One day, when searching for information about preparation to give birth on internet, I came across a blog which the writer shared her routines during pregnancy. One of the routines includes to khatam Quran. Then I started thinking... "Why haven't I think about this? Obviously I am free from period for nine months. So I should utilize this time to finish reading the Quran."
Upon planning to khatam Quran on my own, Mak came out with the "One Juzuk One Week" project. Perfect timing, alhamdulillah. So I joined this project and started reading from juzuk 11. This project helped me in terms of pushing myself harder given that one juzuk must be finished in one week. Active participants like Mak Long even read five juzuk in one week! I told myself, "If Mak Long can do it, why can't I?" I am unemployed, and have plenty of time to read the quran! Of course, I am still not as active as Mak Long. But I am very clear with my own goal, which is to khatam the Quran in 18 weeks (since the project starts in April, until early August, before laboring).
I aim to read 3-4 juzuk per week because who knows if I am going to give birth earlier than the due date that doctor gave, right? Hence, no cheating! 3-4 juzuk per week is a must! Nonetheless, when talking about khatam Quran, I mean "khatam" only. I do not focus on understanding the translation, especially my routine these days is to read 10 pages after dhuha, and another 10 pages after 'asr or maghrib everyday (sometimes I skipped a day or two). Why 10 pages? Why not two pages after every prayer time? Well I guess it's just easier and simpler that way because I might not be at home during zuhr and asr. Other than that, I feel that reading more makes my goal be achieved faster. Clearly, it's just psychology after all. Haha.
Right. Khatam the Quran means that I simply read from page to page without reading the translation. When I read one page per day, I take time to read and understand the translation. Though to tell you the truth, most of the times I understand only the surface of it, not the deep meaning of each words or versus holds. But at least... right? I believe to understand the Quran, one cannot simply learn or do it on her/his own. It is best to find the right person, or someone who is knowledgeable enough to teach you to truly embrace ALLAH's words and messages.
Hereinafter, when you khatam Quran, how do you usually do it? Please take note that I am specifically asking as in how you do it when a time frame is involved. For example; myself - who has 18 weeks or less to finish the Quran. Or during Ramadhan where one only have 28-30 days to khatam. Do you read along the translation and take time to understand it?
Seriously I am probably the least expert when discussing about this topic. As far as I remembered, I never khatam Quran during Ramadhan. Millions of people have done it but not me. I was just too swayed with other unimportant things I guess. Perhaps this year? Who knows if I manage to do it this time? Hehe in shaa ALLAH. I know, other pregnant mothers might khatam Quran for more than once in that nine months of pregnancy. Me? Struggling to finish reading the Quran for only once. Hurm... Whatever it is, it's the process and progress that counts right? Not just the results, in shaa ALLAH.
Dear lovely friends, if you have ideas, opinions or even argument about my topic, please do not hesitate to share it with me and other readers. In shaa ALLAH, it might help people like me, who I consider a 'baby' in this discussion. I thank you in advance for doing so.
See you in next post, in shaa ALLAH.
Love,
Nusaybah.
